《The Challenges for Education in an Age of Acceleration and Digitalization》 德國司徒加特自由大學Peter Lutzker教授

《The Challenges for Education in an Age of Acceleration and Digitalization》

In the beginning of the speech, the speaker explained the topic, ‘’In this era, technology originally was designed to save people’s time, but now, most people become busier than before.’’ The speaker smiled and then continued, ‘’Why? We don't need to write the letters, or send the letters, we just need to send a message. Why we have much less time and much less sleep?’’

Next, the speaker talked about psychological illness, ‘’Psychological illnesses such as depression and burnout are the expressions of a profound crisis of freedom. They are a pathological sign that today living in freedom can still become a source of tremendous pressure.’’ Speaker reminded the audience that we live in a unique historical phase in which living in freedom still imposes great pressures.

Then, speaker asked, ‘’How can you as teachers then help children learn to lead a good life? What role can education play for children and adolescents at different ages?’’ A student answered, ‘’Maybe teach the children how to understand each other.’’ Speaker said, ‘’Thank you, understanding is important. Understanding is a foundation of a close relationship.’’

Not long after, speaker played a video clip which is about a study of adult development, and the result of the study reveals that the people who fared the best were the people who leaned in to relationships, with family, with friends, with community.  From this clip, we learned the good life is built with good relationships.

In the end, speaker gave a quote, ‘’Our anxieties about a future that we fear can only be overcome by visions of a future that we want.’’

In that day, speakers asked us some questions. That two questions that most impressed me are how can you as teachers help children learn to lead a good life? In my opinion, firstly, Know the rules and teach your children how to act under all circumstances. Then, help them by practicing and rehearsing with them, so that their responses and reactions become second nature. Confidence leads to self-competence. All too often, your children miss the opportunity to experience what you teach them on a theoretical level. It is important to practice and rehearse the skills needed for leadership at home, in private, so that your child can call upon those skills in real-life situations. Sports, scouts and enrichment activities such as reading, writing, drama clubs and group activities of all kinds are ways to help teach your child the successful relationship behaviors that build competency.

Besides that, Help your children develop decision-making and problem-solving skills. Helping your child make age-appropriate decisions will guide them towards the principles of responsibility and commitment necessary for social engagement. Listen and communicate with your children so that you know them, see them and help them deal with the problems that are relevant to them. Then, Help your child find his or her passion. This is a skill unto itself which can be taught along with motivation. As an involved and engaged parent, you can guide your child to find his or her passion by encouraging his or her interests and creativity. This is how your child will find the intrinsic value in all they do; how they will come to learn for the love of learning and play for the love of the game.

The second questions are how can you as student and later as teachers learn to live healthy and balanced life and also learn to lead good life? In my opinion, School communities are increasingly becoming places where healthy habits can flourish. The responsibility for teaching children healthy habits does not fall only on teachers though. A healthy school community involves allpartners and sends children the same message in the home, school, and community. Children who attend a healthy school can make informed, healthy decisions that affect their own lives and the lives of their families. There are some ways to learn how to lead a good life such as take care of and nurture yourself. You cannot accomplish anything if you're unhealthy, Know what your priorities are. Balance does not entail cramming in everything possible.

That’s all and thanks

In my opinion, there are three biggest challenges of adopting digital learning at schools. The first one is the infrastructure. It is a problem that both schools and students face. Most schools do not have IT infrastructure that can support large-scale eBooks and digital curriculum distribution. The next one stands for Content curation Digital learning is not limited to converting existing content and books to digital formats. In order to have its full effect, digital learning in schools must be accompanied by dynamic and interactive curated content. However, it’ s important to add courses such as media literacy to curriculum for fear that students will misunderstand the context. And the third one lies in technological challenges. Digital curriculum are not one time investments. The curriculum needs to be constantly upgrading the platforms as and when technologies change. Technology shifts can have an important impact on existing content. This situation is similar to what corporate had to deal with when device manufacturers stopped supporting their flash-based eLearning content, and HTML5 came to the foray.

Digital learning in schools is going to rise in the future as more and more schools adopt it, but it has its fair share of challenges. Schools that adopt digital learning and new technology need thorough information on challenges they can face. Take STEAM education for instance, in today's elementary school, teachers do not know how to make codes on Micro: bit. Therefore, there are schools like NTHU holding workshop on weekends, helping other schools to bring digital transformation to education. By harnessing the power of technology to understand the needs of your institution as well as the needs, wants and preferences of your target audience - prospective students or learners - you will steer yourself on the right path towards digital maturity. While it still may seem like a daunting prospect, digital transformation comes with a seemingly endless host of benefits, evolving with the zeitgeist, and if you want to thrive in tomorrow’s world, making changes today is crucial.

To me, learning is mostly, at least in university, not a thing whose criteria sets on the score, and that is, to put it briefly, it’s not about how high your score is but about how you value, prepare, and see the “learning” thing.
Honestly, I’m really confused about how and what to do, who I want to be in the future, and it, the future, just seems so darn close that it could come to anyone who is an undergraduate stealthily, and you don’t even notice that you’re about to step into the society and find a job that suits you or establish one. Apart from the above, the future seems so far away that we’re all still students and just need to study hard and don’t have to worried about nothing.

Even in a generation with technology vigorously developing. I don’t have an actual thought on what I want to do, it’s so vague that whenever I contemplate on it, all I could envisage seem like covered by a blur.

Education faced with such a fast-changing environment and education modes literally poses a predicament that future educators have to find out a way that makes a breakthrough in such a light-dimming path in which the world might not have many children and students as well as the new method to cultivate the students to acquire the skills that future society needs waiting to be discovered or brood about.

The education still has a long way to go, but to the future educators, we don’t have that much time to find out a definite method of teaching, and I don’t even certain that whether it’s the look I’ve ever wanted myself to be in the future.

It’s surely a challenge to us, not only because of the digitalization but the whole environment toward teaching would be a dilemma for anyone who is longing for participating in the field.
